Scrappy Piano Teachers

Hey Teacher Friend,

It’s recital week over here, which means I’m slowly working through my checklist one bit at a time. My task for today = creating programs

Quick Tip: Throw a QR code on the back of your program that takes students and parents to your Google review page to grab some 5 star reviews. This is a great time for them to share!

Anyhoo, how are you doing with your recitals? Are you in the middle of prep too? Are you feeling good? A little stretched? Somewhere in between?

Recital weeks can be so fulfilling. You get to see the progress, the confidence, the moments where things finally click for our students. It really is kind of our big moment of the year, right? We get to see all of that work show up in one place.

At the same time, sometimes it gets a little annoying.

Families cancel. Students get sick. Pieces don’t feel as polished as you hoped. Or maybe everything goes great and you’re still just tired from carrying all of it.

It’s not going to be perfect, and that’s okay. We’re human, and our students are, well, students. You can almost think of it as job security.

It really can go either way.

So wherever you are right now, I just want to say this. You are doing meaningful work, and I think you’re awesome. I’m so thankful that you’re out there doing what you do.

Because even if a performance isn’t perfect, even if a student forgets something, even if things feel a little less appreciated than you hoped, you still showed up. You prepared them. You cared about them. You created space for music to exist in their lives, and that matters way more than any single performance.

If you need a little extra support this week, here are a few podcast episodes you can pop on while you’re driving or folding programs along with some resources:

I have some episodes back in the Music Teacher Mastermind days, a Scrappy Snippet, a discounted Reflection Toolkit, and a free Recital Budgeting Spreadsheet.

Creative Recitals with Elizabeth Swift (Ep 008)

Recital Prep for the Studio with Janna Williamson (Ep 037)

Preparing Students for Recital Performance with Molly Gebrian (Ep 059)

Perfect for the week after recitals! 50% off with code RECITAL50 until 4/27/26

Get more organized, plus this free spreadsheet shows your cost per student.

On another note, there is NO episode this week

As I head into my third year of podcasting, I’m tightening things back up and sticking to a biweekly schedule so things stay sustainable on my end.

I do have some really fun conversations coming, and I can’t wait to share them with you.

Almost time for another Scrappy Circle!

And lastly, I’m also planning a teacher meetup in May, and I’d love your input. What would be more valuable for our next Scrappy meetup?

I’m cheering you on this recital season, wherever you are in it.

Feel free to share those recital moments, we are in it together!

Jaci
