Scrappy Piano Teachers

Hey Teacher Friend,

Can you believe we are already getting ready for another school year?

To help us get our teacher brains back into gear, I am hosting a free back to school Scrappy Circle on August 14 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and my special guest will be Eric Branner!

This is going to be a fun, casual time for us to get together and talk through whatever is on your mind as you prepare for the upcoming school year.

When you RSVP, you can submit any questions or topics you would like us to discuss. Policies, tuition, calendars, systems, studio organization, or anything else you are thinking through right now are all fair game.

I also asked Eric to give us a quick walkthrough of Make Music Studio, formerly Fons. There have been some really exciting changes and updates to the software that have made me a convert and a 100% believer, along with many other teachers. Eric will show us around and give you a chance to see what is new.

Then, if we have time, we will hang out and chat some more!

Bring your favorite cup of joe, tea, or whatever else you enjoy. I never judge. 😉

Can’t attend live? No worries! RSVP anyway, and I will send you the replay.

It's been a minute, so here are a few quick scrappy updates...

Getting ready for the school year?

My latest podcast episode includes a quick back to school checklist to help you think through the most important pieces as you prepare your studio.

Not quite sure how to word or communicate your own studio changes?

You can also check out my late June podcast episode, “Say It Clearly: Communicating Studio Changes.” I share practical ideas for explaining changes clearly without overexplaining, apologizing, or losing your natural warmth.

I have noticed that teachers have also been downloading these resources as they get ready for fall:

🎵 Free Editable Canva Studio Calendar

Plan out your entire studio year and customize it for your own students and families.

🎵 Teaching Philosophy Template

Take yourself out for a cup of coffee and dedicate some time to revisiting your teaching beliefs, priorities, and strengths before the year begins.

🎵 Policy Triangle Workshop Workbook and Replay

Work through your policies, calendar, tuition, and communication while seeing plenty of sample wording and examples.

🎵 Profit First Music Teacher Cheat Sheet

A simple resource to help you begin organizing your studio finances using the Profit First method.

What’s new in my studio?

This year, I am swapping out our traditional Happy Birthday Week for Musical Informances, and I am so excited about it!

I think it will be a refreshing change for my studio and a meaningful way for students to share what they are learning.

If you are curious about Musical Informances, listen to my conversation with Ashley Danyew. She shares what they are, how they work, and how teachers can use them in their own studios.

There have also been some significant changes in my studio. I recently had to make the incredibly difficult decision to reduce my studio by more than half. We are talking sleepless nights, tears, arguments with myself, and more tears kind of difficult.

I recently joined the Make Music Studio team, and it has been a BLAST! But this new opportunity also required me to take an honest look at my margin and what I can realistically give.

Ultimately, I know this decision will allow me to be a better teacher to the students who are staying. I also know that the wonderful teachers taking over my other students will care for them well.

It is going to be an interesting year, with plenty of changes for all of us. More about that later.

I hope to see you at the Scrappy Circle on August 14!
