Scrappy Piano Teachers

Dec 16th

Hey Teacher Friend,

We are officially in that strange December stretch (almost there!) and I started to see a trend in social media posts, as well as receiving questions myself all about...

What does practice look like over break?

A new Scrappy Snippet dropped yesterday that talks through this exact idea and what we really mean when we say we are “taking a break” as teachers and students.

If you are feeling unsure about what to send home, what to expect, or how much to loosen the reins, you might enjoy this one.

A Rote Story Book (Finally) Updated!

Plus some extra last-minute helps

Even though it is late in the season, I just finished a newly revised version of Coda’s Ornament, and I wanted to make sure you knew it was available.

Coda’s Ornament is a Christmas piano storybook designed for young students and is a children's book, activity book, and rote piano book all rolled into one. It blends learning in a way that feels playful and celebratory and personally...it is about my own dog, so that makes me happy 😁

Each chapter includes
• A short story about Coda the dog
• A simple activity
• A very easy rote piano piece taught through listening and imitation, with QR codes so that students can continue learning at home (or do 100% independently at home outside of lessons)

I use this as an optional take home resource during winter break for students who want something musical without pressure. It works well for private lessons, group settings, or studio wide sharing, and it is available with both single user and studio licensing. Click on the images for more info.

Still Available This Week

If you are in full December survival mode, the December Piano Party Pack is still up for grabs. This is exactly what I am using in my own studio this week to fill lessons with meaningful activities without adding new expectations or heavy prep.

Thank You!

I also want to say a big thank you to everyone who joined the Scrappy Circle last week. The conversations around adult students, favorite resources, and studio decision making were thoughtful and encouraging.

If you missed it, do not worry. We will absolutely get together again soon!

Getting Life Back Together in January

And the Winter Workshop is coming up quickly. If January usually feels like the month of systems and resetting, this is a good place to land and work alongside other teachers. (Psst - I still have Black Friday pricing up!)

As always, take what helps, leave what does not, and remember that rest is not the enemy of progress. Sometimes taking a break just means removing the pressure.

I hope you and your students are able to breathe a little over the next couple of weeks.

You guys are awesome, thanks for always being here!
