“When students connect with a musical story, they’re not just practicing piano—they’re building empathy, creativity, and emotional intelligence.”
As a piano teacher, I often feel like every couple of years I become a totally different teacher than I was before.
Okay, maybe not completely different, but teaching truly is an ever-evolving journey.
It’s a humbling process and an art in itself—every time I think I’ve “figured it all out,” one of my students surprises me, makes me question my methods, and pushes me to learn and grow.
I’ve had those moments where I question every life choice, maybe even vent a little, and then ultimately get back to discovering ways to improve.
For years, I was skeptical about rote teaching. I saw it as a shortcut, even a waste of time. But I was so wrong!
Embracing rote has transformed my studio and created a whole new level of engagement and growth in my students.
In my latest podcast episode, I dive deep into how I now approach rote teaching, and how this shift has positively impacted my students’ learning. I’d love for you to give it a listen—maybe it will spark some ideas for your own studio!
